smps transformer

Can a SMPS ferrite-core tranformer used in reverse? Eg. can a 230v/ 12v SMPS transformer used in reverse (assuming that the same switching frequency is used) to get 12v stepped up to 230v? as anyone try it out? Thanks.

step by step smps

Yes, i tried it with a transformer out of a PC power supply.

The 2 high voltage windings i have put in series. But i only got 100 Volts out of it....

step down transformer for smps

the universal power supply operated at 85-270v and if you reversed the sides the step up voltage will not be that much high.

using transformer in reverse

smd_lover:
Were you using push-pull configuration at the primary input? Some psu output use half-wave rectification.

radujp:
You got a point there.

May be we have to double the pri. voltage.

Thanks for you response.
