Hai
i have made a circuit that employs real time clock rtc 1307.
so i have a query regarding the start oscilation function.
should i use it only once ?? or every time the mcu restarts ???

Is it like i have to use it once and then it will be oscillating always ( provided their is 3v battery )

There's no start oscillation command. The CH bit has to be reset once when the RTC is initialized after connecting the battery. Every unnecessary write command affects clock accuracy.

So once i intitialize and connect battery.i dont have to reinitialize it evrytime right

The supply voltage keeps the thing runing so as long as it isn't disconnected from a power source it does not need to be re-initialized. If the power is interrupted, it will lose all it's settings and the time/configuration will have to be written to it again.

Brian.
