Hey
I have those memory chips bought,
the difference is supposed to be related to WP pins:
Two configurations are available upon order.
SST26VF064B default at power-up has the WP# and
HOLD# pins enabled, and the SIO2 and SIO3 pins disabled,
to initiate SPI-protocol operations.
SST26VF064B / SST26VF064BA
2.5V/3.0V 64 Mbit Serial Quad I/O (SQI) Flash Memory
SST26VF064B / SST26VF064BA

SST26VF064BA default at power-up has the WP# and
HOLD# pins disabled, and the SIO2 and SIO3 pins
enabled, to initiate Quad I/O operations. See “I/O Configuration
(IOC)” on page 12 for more information about
configuring WP#/HOLD# and SIO3/SIO4 pins

and it's pretty clear to me, but.... the markings on the SOIC package are exacly the same! Both of them are marked as "B" version and not "BA"...
how am I supposed to tell which one is which?

The factory configurations with different power-up of IOC bit have been probably generated to achieve compatibility with other products. I guess it's implemented as (undocumented) nonvolatile programming option.

You can check the version by reading the initial config register state after power-on. Using both chip versions shouldn't be a problem if you are writing IOC bit respectively. What's your specific problem with it?
