split ground plane

hi ,
i wonder to know why Analog Devices use a split ground plane for ADC board if the output are LVDS\CMOS type and if the outputs are single-ended, the power plane is split.
is the next statement right ?
"i know that differential signals have lower noise than single-ended ones, so the sinle-ended signals need a ground for return currents."

adc ground planes

I always design my project with 3 separate ground, digital, analog, and power gnd. The reason you must split the ground is because the analog gnd are much noisy than the digital gnd. Uniting this gnd might cause problem for the microcontroller's oscillator. the supply voltage must be split between A and D.
