Dear Friends,
I am using 8051 & my clock frequency is 11.0592 mhz. If i want to put my software outside controller then how i will select a proper EPROM for that. HOW I WILL DECIDE THE SPEED PARAMETER FOR THIS APPLICATION. Means particular speed IC is best for my application.

bye..

Isn't that depending on the duration for your software to boot up. I think you need to look at the read access time of the EPROM or other type of memories and check which type is fast enough or adequate for your software to kickstart.

Hi,

Assuming you are using a standard 8051 at 11.0592MHz, which works with 12 clock period per processor cycle :

Processor's time cyle = 12 / 11059200 = 1.085µS.

This value is very large. I can write that all available memory or eprom will accomodate such a value. The slowest chip I ever seen had 250nS read cycle. Today, standard value for low speed chips is 70 - 150nS read cycle.
