the power supply is too much for a single LED but can you be more specific are you using an array of lights and stuff like that
 

Yes, 7,2Ah 12V can power 4W LED.

This battery 7,2Ah is for max load up to 50W no more. You can power one LED module of 50W on it, and will light.

I use often single 9W warm white led for hand held light.

There is LED modules of 100W, 200W 500W,....

if you want to trigger a sensor there or just detection of motion using sensor

See the specifications of the Voltage and current rating of your said LED. Powering a LED is always good with a current controlled source like a driver. You may also use a resistor in series to the LED.
