I have a small project on microstrip antenna design and my prof recommend me ADS for simulation but it's too expensive to buy for a student. I asked him for a copy with my own PC but he refused and recommended me to work in his Lab. It takes time and I want to do this project in my home.

Do you know ADS has a free version for education? or another free software for antenna design simulation?

Hi friend

I suggest you to get HFSS.Its very much appropriate for all types of HF antennas, specially microstrips, hrons and patch antennas.

U may also get the full guide book along with the software. Its not much cheaper.
Try
ansoft.com

i m sure that u will find it perfect.

best regards
ali

The following softwares are used for antenna simulation and design :
1-CST microwave studio
2-superNEC (I believe there's a freeware copy of his program)
3-HFSS
4-Zeland

SuperNEC and CST contain different types of antenna ready made inside them .

you can refer to www.zeland.com and download zeland v12 then work with software zeland.
software zeland simulated microstrip patch antenna .
also i have ADS2005. if want, i will upload for you.

Hi nazanin,

if it's possible, could you please upload this software? Because I see that in my place, people prefer ADS the most so I want to familiarize with this software. Concerning about the l*i*c*e*n*c*e, could you send it via my email: haibinhle@hotmail.fr (It seems that this forum does not want to make public unlicenced software :D)

Thank you in advance!

u can also used matlab RF plotter u can use this link **broken link removed**

I know that that microwave studio from CST could be provided to
you for a free evaluation period of 3 months. Contact the company
directly and tell them that you are a university/education institute.
They normally offer discounts for such occasions.

This is how I learned about CST when i was a student.
I realised that the software was very efficient (ideal for 3D simulations)
especially for radiating (antenna) structures, and my university decided to pay the
money so i can use it for the research. On top of this the charge
for the software is really very reasonably charged, for the performance
that it offers you.

Of course there are many other simulation packages you can use and
try. But I quote you what I used in the past and gave me satisfactory and
trustful results. Good luck!!

yes,i vote ur reply, cst more friendly and simple and accurate ,i advice u simluate ur antenna by it

what about FEKO , i heard it id great , but i didn't try it

Khouly

How's about MWO? I think that's a good chooice for antenna.

i suggest you use HFSS , it is very usefull, and i always used it to simulate PCB antenna . The result is also precise as the measurement.

EMCOS software doesnt give the feed point, is it a good software for microstrip patch antenna simulation, as compared to IE3D

Added after 5 minutes:

hi, nazanin,i am working on design and analysis of microstrip patch antennas, can u send me ADS2005,my mail id is ranjit_481@rediffmail.com

avi2010, what do you mean 'does not give the feed point'? I also use EMCoS software, but haven't performed real tests in patch antennas design validation.

Hi,
I am aso working on Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antennas and require a software to simulate it.
Please Nazanin, email me the ADS on vikrop@gmail.com

Also, does anyone knows the formula for calculating the Feed points? Please, help

Thanks

You can use FEKO lite. its an easy to use software and should be fine for simple Microstrip Patch Antenna.

For calculating the feed points, usually its a trial process, keep changing the feed point till you get the proper impedance that matches your port at the operating frequency.

"ADS design enviroment" will also be a good choice for simulating antenna.

Hi widpmines
Check thid pdf for the formula.

NOTE: Side gapes should be choosen by hit and try.
and for start choose it about 1mm.
