SN74LVC1G373 LATCH not work as expected?

Hello,

I always thought that the idea of a latch is that it allows its output to change state, but then latches in that state.

However, the SN74LVC1G373 clearly does not do this, ...it simply doesnt change its output if the LE pin is taken low.

...That isnt "latching" in the true sense of the term...surely?


The purpose of a patch is to "catch" a short pulse...surely

What you are describing is a 'transparent latch'. A D type latch is not normally 'transparent'. However, the chip you have posted data on is actually transparent - when LE is held high the output follows the input.

Different latches have different purposes. Some are intended to track an input and then hold it, others are intended to quickly grab a state at a specific moment in time.
