led dimmer switch

Unfamiliar with any advanced wiring, but have a little project in mind. I was wondering how i could create a dimmer switch that would work for around eight 5mm LEDs? it would be in a very compact place, attached to an existing knob in a car. Was thinking of making some sort of variable resistor, but was unsure how to go about making one that would fit and work for this application.

Any advice/instructions would be appreciated!

Connecting several LEDs in parallel is not a good idea ..
However, if you decide to go that way, instead of one common current limiting resistor you should use individual equlizing resistor for each diode ..

If you can ( N x LED forward voltage ) consider connecting N LEDs in series ..

Thanks for the reply, i dont plan on doing this right away, but now i have something to start making my plans up with

dimmer switch led

Use mosfet which has better result in dimmer application.

dimmer switch for led

a vn 66 is the best to use for medium power

it is a fetlington and has a high gain

very good for pwm work
and will work fine into 100mhz rf ranges also

i recomend this fet
