simple autorouting question ?

hi,

i need some hints,links, algorithms, (simple ones ) for implemention in autorouting program in digital layouts.
My basic requirement is :

i have n number of points, say 4 points namely 1,2,3 and 4 , all randomly placed, i need to connect 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 ,...so on using only horizontal and vertical lines.

what can be the possible ways.

crossing of lines is for the time being permitted.

draw a line at the middle of the design

then join with perpendicular line form the adove drawn line to the points..
this is the shortest path to join all routes
