I am very well familiar with 8051 (89s51)

Now I want to start with more advanced microcontroller.

I am going to do microcontroller programming in C as I am very well aware of embedded C programming.

Now my question is should I go for AVR or PIC...
What is the basic difference between them, which is better ?

The one that suits your project needs best

Re: Should I choose AVR or PIC... What is the basic differen

You need to use AVR first because it's easy to learn. Then, you are able to use CodeVision AVR to program and run simulation by Proteus 7.2. After you have good background about AVR, you can move on PIC because Pic has more applications ( For example : Use PIC to communicate USB that AVR can't ).
If you have any question about AVR. Don't hesitate contact directly with me via haitruyen315@gmail.com!

If you are familiar with 8051 go for something bigger, go for ARM7.

Hello!

Basically that kind of question will not give you any useful information because:
- You cannot know who is knowledgeable enough to know the difference between
processors;
- Almost all "experts" will promote what they know best, even if they don't know
other processors. Processor X user will tell you that X is a lot easier to use
than Y, Z even if his knowledge of Y and Z is superficial.

I think the best would be to list what you want to do, what you expect from
a "more advanced" mocrocontroller, etc, and choose accordingly.

Dora.
