Hi,
I am designing a circuit where I need to know whether the device under test( in my case - it is a very small ic 2x3 mm) is placed on the tester.
How do I detect the presence of the IC? Is there any sensor particularly for that kind of applications?

hi..

You can use Infrared sensor to detect any small object

An optical detector is a natural choice. A magnifying glass can assist greatly.

It will also help if the device is lighter or darker than the background.

How tall is the device? Could it block a beam of light coming from an led? Shining on a small photodetector?
