Self driven ships.

Hi,

I would like to know whether the Self driving cars technology can be applicable for Self driven ships?
Cars need to react on pedestrians, bicycles, children, signs, traffic lights, roads, rain, grip, ice, roadworks....
How would you like to applicate it on ships?

To look at an example of another type of craft...
Airplanes have autopilots which started out primarily to maintain altitude and heading. Eventually more tasks were built in such as following a radio beacon to land planes on runways.

Nowadays GPS is used extensively (we can be pretty sure) to navigate cars and planes and ships. Still there is the occasional situation where a human needs to steer.

Thank you.

Is the System feasible to be implemented with the vessels (Ships, Boats, Cruises) moving without the captain of the ship? i.e. Driverless ships.

The Ships, vessels reaching to the correct destination ports starting from the source port, navigation lights signals, lighthouses detection, collision prevention, calamities (storms, cyclones etc) detection etc

There could be major challenges for designing and developing the driverless Vessels system in oceans, seas & lakes ?

Could this be a interesting research & development project in marine engineering, Artificial Intelligence technologies?

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar
