i iam in a position to deal with a good amount of data with micro controller.
can anyone pls advice me a good storage system.that can be used faith flly to store strings, pictures, and audio type files.

how is fat16 sd card and eeproms??

which one is recomended.

and how should i implement the memmory management unit?

pls help, though this may be dump question.

as you want to store pictures eeprom is not suitable.

better use sd card.

what microcontroller do you use?

i use pic18f452.

what about the memmory management?

SD card is used with an assosciation of a file system. You will see images as files.

u mean fat16 and fat32.

would i be able to address the data by the name of the file and forget about the address locations.just as we do in windows???

could u pls help me to give an idea about maximum addressable locations....

like support upto 2GB,4GB etc.

i am using pic18f452 as the controller.

you may interface sd card to PIC with suitable interface.
google for PIC related sd interface.

what you are reading is files only .
there is no address mapping as you expect.

when you read the files you will get into PIC memory.

MMC is the 1st generation . and SD cards are second generation based on MMC .

both have same size.

SD cards have write-protect switch . MMCs don't.

upto 4GB FAT12/16 file system is used in SD cards.
beyond FAT32 file sytems.

SDCards are widely used in digital cameras.
so cost is very low.
