Because , by tradition things always start of with nothing until you increase them, when plotting the gain curves of devices the inputs always start at zero, so it would seem logical to use this for a schmidtt trigger. So set your input to 0V and start plotting. If you are using PNP devices with a negative Vcc rail the input should then go negative.
