scan chain reordering

Hi all,

while scan chain reordering ,will layout tool changes the names of registers(input pin names of registers like data pin or asynchronous pins) by any chance

basics of scan chain reordering

usually not the case. Can you be specific about the issues and tool?

No, scan chain reordering doesn't change the names of the registers or pins. Think about it - how could timing exceptions still be valid if all the FF names changed? How could you know what the new scan order was if all the names were changed?

The names don't change.

Thanks MarcS and santhosh007

Based on timing and congestion the tool optimally places standard cells. While doing so, if scan chains are detached, it can break the chain ordering (which is done by a scan insertion tool like DFT compiler from Synopsys) and can reorder to optimize it.... it maintains the number of flops in a chain.
