RTC backup with Lithium Battery (charge)

Hi all,

Some have experienced a circuit to charge a 3v lithium coin cell (like CR2032), that backups an RTC (connected to Vbat and ground) in a 5V supplied application?

So, I tried to suggest an alternative in the same 2032 package...

I have in mind to use ST M41T00, and I have automatic battery backup switch on power down.
Searching better I found a page: h**p://www.st.com/stonline/products/support/memory/nvram/bl_data/rtc.htm
to calculate th life time of battery, with CR2032 (210 mAh) I get > 20 years!!

We should not recharge CRXXXX lithium coin cells...

FWIW, if you ever need very small LiMnO2 rechargeable, both Sanyo and Panasonic have the ML414.

First i can think that you can't get : "I get > 20 years!!"
1. because the standart LIMnO2 battery have a internal lose capacity 0f 5%
per year and also in function of temp.
2. the supplier give you out of date of the battery that is ~5-10 years
over that date they can work maybe? but no guarante.


E.g.
For that that say that you can't recarge a 2032 size battery
the 2032 are the size of the battery
of corse most of them are LIMnO2 ~210mah that can't be recharge
but laso avaliable in that size Li-Ion battery that you can charge with
capacity of ~35 mAh

When i say "LIMnO2 battery " i mean that is the chimestry of the CR2032
battery.

For the understand when say Lithium battery they are few kinds of battery
but the main chimical is the Lithium for example:


types of Lithium battery:

* Mannganese Dioxide (LiMnO2) - the popular Lithium, non recharging battery (avaliable also type ml that is recharging)
* Sulfur Dioxide (LiSO2) - special for military and aerospace.
* Tyonil clorid (LiSOCl2) - special high capacity battery lost cap 1% pear year.
* Lithium-Ion Polymer - recharging lithium battery
* Lithium-Ion - popular use in computhers phone etc recharging lithium battery.


all of these battery called lithium battery
