RS232 Transmit Receive Pins

I have got a new connector whose datasheet specifies Transmit, Receive signals in a different way as shown below:

So what i wanted to confirm is : When it says S>M it means Master is receiving data and when M>S, Master is transmitting data.

I would guess so. It could also be "Surface" and "Marine" but as RS232 needs a transmit and receive line it is most likely what you thought in post #1.

Honestly speaking, I like (and often name my signals) this way of naming, because it´s more clear (but not common).

To name a signal RECEIVE, Rx or RxD simply is not clear.
What on the one end of the wire is Tx ... on the other end of the wire it is Rx and vice versa.

Similar to SPI signal names "MOSI" and "MISO"..
I often use names like S2M (here "S>M"), Slave_to_Master and M2S, Master_to_Slave with RS232, UART TTL signals, and similar signals.

So I agree with you and Brian.
