RS 232 Spying programming

I know there are many program spy on RS-232 but how these programs work ,how they read a port which is already opened from other processes !!

Any One Can Help PLZ :)
 

Such programs actually install a filter driver and work in the kernel mode.

Great ,do you have any extra hints about using the Kernel mode and how windows allow any process to operates in such mode :) :?
