RFID Based Sensing Application?

Can anybody think of a good RFID based sensing application

These guys (see link to paper below) claim to have built a passive RFID tag with a microcontroller and senors on it. Now they're device is just a prototype and only measures light levels but it seems like with a full MCU with ADCs you could measure a lot more things as long as the sensors are low power.

Say somebody actual got this tag to work well, what can you do with such a device? If the sensor RFID tag only turns on when it is less then say 10 meters from a RFID reader is this really useful for gathering infromation?
