Hello ..

I have an interview at Nokia for a 'RF Engineer' position. I have knowledge of generic RF stuff but I was wondering if anyone can specify more on What kind of RF skills are really needed for such a position ?

may be you should have

Knowlege of measuring Instruments like VNA , VSA , Spec Ana, Radio communication tester (like CMU from R&S) etc
Knowledge of latest standards 3Gpp ETSI
How to make measurements , NF , IP3, IMD , spurious etc
RF basics , PCB guidelines
tools knowledge - simulations ADS , MWO , CST , CAD tools anyone atleast.

- What is VSA? Is it different from a normal spectrum analyser?

- Are there any links to detail design inside a cellular phone?

- Does anyone know a specific research area for next generation smartphones?

now in most phones everything comes as SOC.

for research take "antennas" as multiple bands of frequency needs to be adressed its a challenge.
