Question is much universally.

Prototyping for home or business?
Price range?
What to prototyping, what parts?

As hobbyists buy some middle class around 100eur for hot air.
Soldering station can be found digitaly controlled for 50eur.

Buy adapter nozzles for hot air station for TQFP cases, maybe for SO18-20 also.

Prototyping for business. Most ICs we use are in the SOIC package. Resisters and caps are 1206. Processors are TQFP package. Price range, I not sure yet, The cheaper the better but I recognize you get what you pay for... At this time only about 25%- 30% of prototyping would be SMD. The rest would be through hole.
