I would like to know the relation between the size or cross sectional area of the cable (AWG) and the maximum current expected to be carried in this cable.
There are numerous tables on the net (from cable manufacturers and others) that answer this question. It depends on temperature rise, insulation material, number of wires in the bundle etc. Your question is too general to answer.
