Hey Guys...

i have a 18V DC supply with current upto 5A, it's basically an bridge rectified output(filtered by an 2.5mF cap)...

Now I want a supply of 5V DC from it.....and also of current upto 2A

i can't use 7805 due to current requirement(as today i have blown my ATMEGA32 because of it only...) :???:

so please tell me what would be the simplest way to do that..... ;-)

please help i really need it urgently...

Thanks in advance... ;-)

A switching regulator would probably be suited in your case to have better efficiency and low heat on the regulator.
A solution like **broken link removed** would work fine.

You can also use 78T05 which works up to 3A or a standard 7805 with a pass transistor like 5V 3A Regulate power supply by TIP2955 | Circuit Project Electronic but in both cases you will have about 18-5v=13v*2A=26W as heat, that is why a switching regulator would be a better solution.
