purpose of pll

Have studied PLL basics out of a few microelectronics books.

Any recs on a good PLL with datasheet that would be worth taking a look at?

By far, the best thing to do is to get on and play with it. Analog Devices sells some already built up on test boards, battery operated, that you can play around with. They have software to program the chip thru a usb port. If you have an oscilloscope, you can do a lot.

Simulate a PLL and then you will only learn it, there are so many details that you will learn in the process. You will be surprised.
