hey what is ubuntu??
is it any version of linux??

Internally, Cadence uses IBM T41 ThinkPad laptops with RHEL 3.0/4.0. So do we, so do a lot of companies. The are the best in my opinion.
SuSE and CentOS are fine too.

I have used succesfully gEDA suite , schematic , pcb etc, on:

- Acer ASPIRE 1710 Suse 8.2 , 9.1 , 9.2 , 9.3 , 10.1
- HP NX9005 RHEL 4, Fedora Core 6
- ACER travelmate 4600 SUSE 10.3
- ACER travelmate TM351 SUSE 9.3 , RHEL 4
- FujitsuSiemes Amilo(now i forgot the number) P3 1G 256M Ram , Suse 9.3

Bye ;-)
BIG

What processor?? Intel Core 2 Duo
What OS?? RedHat Enterprise AS 3.0
What Memory?? 2 GB
What else can be required??? 10 GB (Free on H.D.D.) & Ethernet Card

Ubuntu 6.06 LTS is a well-suited version to run EDA tools especially for the laptops, Cadence IC5141 (5033), ADS2008, Modelsim, Cosmos work well on it.

It seems that some of you run ADS on ubuntu,
is it running with Wine ?
is it stable?

Thanks

Ill discourage you from using Ubuntu.
I've being called several times to fix weird issues of EDA on Ubuntu with regards to multi-libs on different architectures.
Some even took a week to get ic5033 back on track.
I would recommend you RHEL, or its clone CentOS, at least you'll have time to sleep and a smile on your face.

I've been working with my issues closely with RHEL and CentOS developers. They helped me a lot via the Fedora community and the existing bugs are now fixed upstream.
