Anybody here has done hard disk drive read channel validation?

I would like to know if there are any tutorials, papers or literature that show techniques for performance measurement and validation of hard disk drive read channels.

Any validation programs/examples using Matlab or C will be useful.

Thanks, neoflash. I had found the storage review site but the PRML site is certainly very useful.

Are there any tutorials explaining read channel block diagram in detail? I have looked at some google search results and the block diagram has been described only briefly.
