Hi all
I am a newbie in antenna measurement. I had fabricated a transmitted antenna and received antenna. I am urgently need some advice on the radiation pattern measurements.
Transmitted antenna: dipole antenna
Received antenna: dipole antenna
I want to measured the radiation pattern of dipole antenna with E5062 series network analyzer.
What is the means of S21 results?
How to convert the S21 results into power receive?

Thank you and best regards

If you tell your network analyzer to report s21 magnitude in dB, then that is the free space path loss in db's between the two antennas.

To figure out received power, it helps to convert the transmit power into db form also. Say you had 2 milliwatts transmit power. That is 10 LOG 2/1 = +3 dBm transmit power. You need a power meter to actually measure the power going into the transmit antenna's connector.

Then from your network analyzer you know the free space path loss is 30 dB.

The received power is simply +3 dBm -30 dB = -27 dBm.

-27 dBm is 2 microwatts.

if i do not have power meter to measured the power transmitted, am i still able to measured radiation pattern with network analyzer?i done some measurement of S21 versus orientation of receive antenna. Those result can used to plot E plane?
How to know the transmitted power from port 1 network analyzer?

thank you and best regards
