Redhat 7.2,7.3,8.0,9.0, Suse9.X or some others? thank you.

for linux redhat 7.2 is advicable.most of eda tools are concentrate on solaris and hp unix not linux
my advice is better u work in solaris
if u like linux redhat7.2 for all edatools
cadence ic5141 is for 7.2
synopsys 2002 dc complier for rehat 6.2 if wanna working redhat 9 for DC must install synopsys installer for DC
thanks

Re: [question]which OS is more compatible with most of EDAto

In my experience,
RH7.3 with updated kernel (2.4.20-28.7 or higher)
is the most recommend-worthy.

I have two platform
Intel P4 3.4GHz HT/FSB800
4GB DDR400 RAM Dual-channel MEM enabled
I865Chipsets

AMD Barton 3200+
3GB DDR400 RAM
nForce2 Ultra Chipsets

All the Cadence, Synopsys, MentorGraphics products can
be installed smoothly and function well (I am an experienced EDA user).
Including IC5/5032/5033/5141, LDV3.3/3.4/4.0/4.1/5.0/5.1, IUS5.3,
USIM4.1, SPR50, SPW4.81/4.82, SOC3.1/3.2/3.3/4.1,.....
DC2002.05/2003.x/2004.x, Hspice2001.x/2002.x/2003.x/2004.x,
NANOSIM2003.x, .....
Mentor Calibre2003.x/2004.x, Mentor IC flow 2003.x, 2004.x.....
All the linux version can run correctly in RH7.3 with kernel-2.4.20-28.7

In addition,
Nassda HSIM, Mathworks Matlab R13(6.5), R14(7)
can be installed and function well.

Sandwork Spice Explorer 2004 version is limited to viewer feature because of Glibc version.
2003 version is compatible.

However, Mentor Calibre seems to have memory control problems.
If I use more than 3GB RAM, 2003.x versions would lag seriously.
And 2004 version seems to have the same problem.

By the way,

Do not use RH7.2.

The hardware supporting is so poor that it makes your installation

"TERRIBLE"

RH 7.3 with updated kernel can let you use the hardwares of the main

stream. But be careful, SATA and the newest Video card are not

suggested.

Re: [question]which OS is more compatible with most of EDAto

RH7.3 have the most EDA tools supported

I am a windows user. In most the windows platform, I recommend windows 2000 professional for most of the eda software because of the compatibility.

Yes, I agree with you, but the question here is about what Linux version. I think RH 7.3 is the most popular

only cadence ldv and synopsys hspice, vcs and mentor most of product support widows version

I'm running many EDA tools under Redhat 8.0, all of them work well. I think Redhat 8.0 is one popular verision. I've never updated the kernel because I'm afraid impacting the use of tools.

Hi

General Rule:

Kernel <= 2.4.X

Special Rule:

Redhat 7.2/7.3:
Fullest.
Mandrake 9.2:
With some little modifications.

tnx

i think if u go in for linux ,which has the support of almost all eda tool companies ,u need to go in for rh 8.0 ,cause it supports the latest hardware and also is officiallyu supported by the vendor.

amarnath

redhat7.3,redhat8.0, Red Hat Enterprise Linux !the EDA sofeware can run better !

What about White Box Linux Enterprise 3?

Re: [question]which OS is more compatible with most of EDAto

I tried to run cadence IC5 in White Box Linux Enterprise 3 but it gives me binary errors. Any suggestions?

It's an old question yet.
So many discussion about that.
I think RHEL3 is the best choice.As I know,
Philips Semiconductors have depployed the RHEL3 as the company wide linux EDA environment. That's true.

Hi,

DO anyone know whether IC5141 can run smoothly on RHEL3 ? Cadence suggests to run IC5141 on RHEL2.1

i think most eda software will support as4

It is the fastest platform that run the EDA tools on the Redhat base 3.0

How about RHEL4?
Does anyone try the latest RedHat enterprise version?
