nonlinear optimization

Hi, there
I had a digital fir synthesizer question and I donot know which way should take. Can anyone help.
Thanks in advance.
My question is: I have the amplitude and group delay(not constant) constraints of the FIR filter and i need to design a filter to approximate these spec. What I know now is these constraints are nonlinear function of FIR impulse response coefficients.

Re: nonlinear optimization

I don't know a correct answer. It's just an idea. Try to use something like LMS algorithm or neural network like technigue. Read about it in Smith S. The Scientist and Engineer's Guide to Digital Signal Processing. page 476, CH 26 Neural Networks. Recursive filter design.
