question about function generator

HI,

I need to use Agilent function generator to generate a square wave source to test a chip. Only when I set amplitude = 0.6 Vpp, offset = 0.3 V, can I get a 1.2V - 0 V square wave (I measure it using oscilloscope). Is this right? Should I set amplitude = 1.2 Vpp, offset = 0.6V theoretically? Thanks.

It is because of open circuited load. Input impedance of scope is very high,
and almost equivalent to open circuit.
Voltage setting is based on matched load.
So, it all depends on your application circuit. If your application circuit
has an input impedance matched to the function generator, you should
set it to 1.2Vpp.
You can easily understand this by terminating scope input with a 50 ohm
resistor.

There should be an "options" button to press. It will allow you to specify the load impedance so that the values shown on the screen match what is on the electrical wiring at the output.
