single balanced mixer

Hi,

I would like to consult you guys here regardin the single mixer function. In the operation of the single balanced mixer, the diodes are reversed so as the junction conductance waveform would be in phase for the two diodes. Could anyone explain why does this happenend when the diode is reversed? Btw what is the significance of the junction conductance waveform?

Thanks
