Hello Everyone;
The picture (below) shows the block diagram of U2793B (a quadrature modulator from Atmel). Can anyone say me why a frequency doubler is used in it?
 

The 0/90 degree block contains flip-flop dividers that generate two quadradute LO signals, but you need a frequency higher than the desired LO, so that you can divide down to the desired frequency.
