Hello guys this is my 2nd Q in this forum. Here it is:
I have an old 486 with a 3com ethernet card I have some valuable data on it that I want to save to import to my portable with a Lan crosswire cable. I think Hyperlynx software will not let you use the LAN cable. I also have tried with Softcopy software demo but it is not working. Anyone has experience with file transfer between 2 PC through ethernet card. Or would it be more convenient to build a small home LAN (just with 2 PC's)

You don't say what operating systems you have on your two machines. If they are both running windows, you can set up a simple peer-to-peer lan connection between the two machines using a crossover cable.
Once connected you would set up file sharing on the drive you want to transfer files from, and simply copy them over to your new machine as if the drive on the old machine was part of the new machine.
