what is the difference between propic2 & propic2 gold ?
does the gold version support more chips ?

the gold version have a variable Vdd
 

Propic2 Gold is used for professional production programming of PICs to meet Microchip's programming specifications. After programming and before code protection the contents is checked at a higher and a lower voltage (Vdd) than the normal operating voltage. This feature is not necessarily needed for development purposes.
