Hello,

is PIC16F88 pin-compatible with PIC16F84A for programming???

As seen in datasheet, they are, but this F88 supports low and high - voltage programming.

I have a veeery simple PIC16F84A serial programming interface (only 2 resistors) so I was wondering could I just plugin the new PIC16F88 and program it (I use IC-Prog, but since it does not support F88 chip, i found a new one which also uses serial interface. It is called DL4YHF's PIC Programmer for Windows (WinPicProg)). (In IC-Prog my serial programming interface is set as to be JDM Programmer.)

I am afraid that I would burn the chip if it is not compatible with the famous PIC16F84 (for programming).

What do you think?

All best,
Trax

pic16f88 programmer software

Hi,

Just check if following pins are the same for both PICs DIP :

VDD,VSS,MCLR,RB6,RB7,(RB3)

If not try to make this simple and nice PIC programmer (JDM type ):

It'll worth !!!

I am afraid you will have some problems.

The 16F88 has a second configuration word and your programmers software should be aware of this ...

I ported an application from 16F628 to 16F88 and had a lot of "fun"

Also note that Microchip changed the pins for the hardware Uart on the 16F88, very intelligent.

best regards

hello,

it works great with my simple serial interface for 16f84 and the programmer software I described above.

The code is not compatible, ofcourse, but all I wanted is to try pragramming it for start.

Thanks,
Trax
