Problem with defining the layers' index in multilayer waveguide

Multilayer Waveguide

Hi all,

I wanna code multilayer waveguide,
I have little problem with defining the index in each layer,I use the following format:

index=@(x) nc*(x<0)+n1*(x>0)+(n2-n1)*(x>l1) and ...

I wanna now use this format in "for" loop, and I don't know how can put this function_handle in a loop.
