how to calculate eb/no

hi to all,

I built a communication system with matlab using the QAM modulation method.
I didn't use the Simulink®.
allso I'm using the Square Root Raised Cosine at the receiver and transmitter with rolloff 0.4
the system works fine but I have problem to measure the Eb/no.

I can't use the AWGN function to add noise but only the RANDN function.
I didn't manage to measure the Eb from the transmitted signal and I don't know how much noise to add to the signal to measure the BER/probability of error, that will match to the theoretical BER/probability of error.
I'm working at the base band and not at the RF band.

parameters that I'm using :
• 4-QAM,8-QAM,16-QAM constellation.
• Samples per symbol 64
• Rolloff of Raised Cosine filter 0.4

I'm sorry if this question is repeated over and over but I didn't find answer to my problem.

thanks for all your help,
sagi
