Anyone can suggest a very precise and constant 5V reference? I Google and see many are recommend LT1085 and LM317? Which one is better? Any better recommendation?

Hi,

LM317 and LT1085 are both usual linear regulators. if you need a precise 5V Reference (for an A/D or ...),these aren't suitable. you should use special voltage reference chips that are made for this purpose. goto Linear Technology - Linear Home Page or Analog Devices | Mixed-signal and Digital Signal Processing ICs or www.national.com and search for voltage references. these are special chips with high accuracy and very good temperature stability (as low as 1ppm/c). keep in mind that you can't load these chips like a usual regulator and usually they can provide currents up to 10~20 mA max.

if you can provide more information about your application,we can help you better.

Good Luck!
