Hi, I'm trying to build a board and need to understand if there are any drawbacks/tradeoffs in getting a powersupply that can provide way more output than needed nominally. For example, I want to design a +3.3V regulator, the nominal load is around 2 Amps. But I want to to certain that I have enough margin=over temp, etc....so I want to get a regulator that can provide something like 6 Amps.

Any drawbacks in doing this, besides perhaps a bigger regulator and associated components?

no drawback except cost and space.

if it is linear type then it will be costly and heavy.
if , switchedmode, see that makesure that you have minimum load always.
