Hi,

I am designing Flyback converter for below specifications.
Switching Frequency:40K

Could you please explain how to calculate the losses across switching diode?
Which parameters to be take care in design to find suitable heatsink.

Regards,
Marx

Hi,

P = average (V(t) x I(t))

Many simulation tools calculate it for you.

Hi,

Many simulation tools calculate it for you

e.g. in LTspice hold the ALT key and make a LMB click on the diode, this shows you the dissipated power. Zoom to the area of interest in the plot, hold the control key and click the label of the trace of interest i.e. power loss of your diode. This gives you the RMS and average power loss of your diode.
