hi!

can anybody please explain me what is gain error, gain drift and linearity error for a programmable gain amplifier and how to find them? please provide me links to documents or upload them regarding the same.

regards,
vijay

can you please explain how to derive these specs? also i wanted to know about output offset drift (for a certain time) and how to derive it

thanks and regards,
vijay

Re: plz explain me these specs of a Programmable Gain Amplif

Hi,

I am trying to characterize a PGA. Following are the list of specifications i am trying to measure. Please tell me how to find these specs. the specs are
1. Gain error
2. Non-linearity
3. Output offset voltage
4. Settling time
5. Noise, RTI
6. Power consumption
7. ICMR
8. CMRR

Also please tell me what testbenches to use. There is a datasheet of a PGA

Thanks and Regards,
Vijay

Gain error is the error between the actual gain and designed gain
Non-linearity is harmonic distortion
Output offset voltage is the offset voltage at the output stage
ICMR is the input common mode range
CMRR is common mode rejectiion ratio
other issuse are easily understanded

hi!

i know what these errors mean. instead i want to know how to measure them and also how to setup testbenches to measure them.

Test conditions (set-ups, etc) can usually be found in good (old) datasheets from
BB, Comlinear, NS.

A book that is likely to have some of what you want is Troubleshooting Analog Circuits by Robert Pease.

A more recent one that has some of the exact set-ups you're looking for is
An Introduction to Mixed-Signal IC test and Measurement, in chapter 3 and chapter 8. In section 8.2.4 the book describes PGA gain characterization techniques.
