The Intel 80386 has a segmented architecture similar to the 80286. But 80286 segments are limited to 64 KBytes while on the 80386 segments can be as large as 4 gigabytes.
The Intel 80286 is a 16-bit processor with a segment-based memory management and protection system.
The 80386 ( this is next to 80286 ) added a 32-bit architecture and a paging translation unit, which made it much easier to implement operating systems which used virtual memory.
