Hi all,

I have developed a patch antenna with Gain around 8dBi. I want to theoratically justify it. Belanis states that if width of the patch is less than lamda than it would directivity is around 8.2 dB. My antenna has the same directivity.

Now in order to verify gain I have to do practical measurements as efficiency can not be determined theoretically? Correct?

Further, directivity of horn is given by D(horn) = Physical area * (4pi/lamda^2). Why this formula can not be used for patches? Can they be considered as apertures like horns? Is it because in horns the fields are inside (enclosed) and in patch they are along the walls of the cavity?

Is there any means of approximating the efficiency of patch antenna?

Thanks in Advance
