PIP capacitor VS MIM capacitor

pip capacitor

in High Voltage CMOS Process, PIP and MIM capacitor are available.

If I use PIP capacitor, cost will increase because PIP require addional poly layer.

but MIM capacitor does not require addional layer.

In my opinion, There is no difference between the two.

Break voltage and Temperature coefficient is same,

Voltage dependent coefficient of MIM is better than PIP.

But Text book prefers to use PIP capacitor rather than use MIM capacitor.

Is there any ground for this explain?

The MIM demands an additional layer. The top plate of MIM, as a rule TiN.

what you say is wrong. PIP capacitor demands an additional poly layer, not MIM.

Strictly speaking, MIM demands an additional layer, but not an addional cost for layer. Standard mixed signal process provides an additional MIM layer basically.

However, PIP demands an additional layer too, also it demands an additional cost for poly layer.

Is it right?

Consequently, It is not a correct answer that MIM cap is better than PIP because MIM demands an additional layer.

MIM capacitor it is far from substrate. there is less parasitic effect than PIP capacitor.
But I don,t know the poly2 (PIP top plane) and MIM layer, which one's cost is larger.

The cost is almost the same.

But now in sub-mircon process, TSMC, UMC, SMIC and others use the MIM cap.

MIM is perfect in RF application. PIP has poor Q and can't used in RF applicatoion.

Excuse me , Does anyone use Cap-finger ? And how to calculate the value of cap-finger. if no design key.
