PicKit 2 FULL with TH components - Need help with layout

Hello everyone,

I would like to share the PicKit2 lite programmer, which we made at our laboratory using mostly smd components (including transistors). It is single sided, smd's are of 0805 package, the size of the programmer is 50x33 mm (milimeters). The usb connector is mini-usb.

Please, feel free to download and make one yourself.

you may remove the U2 and Q1 and give a wire link between drain and source of Q1 location.
During testing "calibration wont be needed. It would work for all 5V devices.
as you get the Rail to rail OP-amp like MCP6271 and the P-MOSfet NTD20P06 or an SMB like IRLML6402(this is available with Farnell), you can restore that section

If you have used Nishal's artwork there need to be a jumper from Vusb to pin 8 of the EEProm.
it was missing in the artwork
you might also observe the power for orange LED is also through the same path.
All the best.

Hi, yes i think also so but i have another problem, i buy two usb cables and still i cannot run it on my pc, sometimes its works 3 seconds and sometimes 15 seconds, like in my previous post -

i guess is the crystal like sometimes the program start sometime not but I don't know i must wait for a new one and then test when it don't work i will steal some many and buy original pickit3

Hey Nishal and mvs sarma,

I don't know if this has been corrected or not, but in my original design, I found that the N-channel MOSFET had pins reversed as well. I fixed it and also connected the yellow LED and EEPROM's as suggested. I have no Vpp error and full functionality using the MOSFET's in my original design. I never see the red LED on at all now, though. Is that normal?

there are many versions of BS250 and BS170 2N7000 and /or BS107.
thus artwork correction may not be possible always.
we can therefore swap pins and solder, an advantage in thro-hole components as against SMD versions.
the Pmosfet at Q1 location has to be an NTD20P06 or IRLML6402.

the RED lamp comes when the device is busy. for example while checking communication, red and orange lamps blink, while Green is ON

Added after 2 minutes:

did you install the .net along with PICKIT2 software as downloadable from Microchip?

PICKIT2 is better as of now as PICKIT3 may undergo few more revisions before stabilizing, perhaps.

TO mvs sarma hi, i say it wrong not the pc program dont run the program in the pic dont run. i say it so. i connect the pickit to pc, nothing , still nothing, then the red led flash twice the pc get the connect sound-after few seconds the red led stop and the pc get the unconnect sound and still this..... sorry for my english and thanks for help

please reprogram your 18F2550 firmware.

OK problem solved it was the op when i used mcp6271 the problem is still when i used tl081 then it run ok but stil vpp an vdd error i must order from farnell the irlm.....

hi Computerman29 realy ur programmer is perfect and easy to make and as mvs sarma saied we want aworkig programmer

I did PICKIT2 two yeas ago. PCB of my device intends for manufacturing by hands. I use it two years and I have never had any problems with my device. You can see picture of PCB on my homepage (**broken link removed**). If you want to read added text I will translate it.

Congratulations
Lovely design with a Nice cabinet. Looks Professional. Admire at it !

Nice design and effort. It could been stiill professional if the PCB was masked as smd devices are used which are difficult to solder in tinned PCB's. Anyways good luck in all your endeavors.
Cheers

And this is my design, size - 25x74mm (plastic enclosure for remote control KM14 with one button).

Can I use BC547 instead of BC639? I will also consider the pin assignments...

Hi everybody,
Could you please tell me how can i program the 3.3v devices (like 18F67J50) with ICD2?
The device gets its power from the programmer and not vice versa.
Can i program the 3.3 devices with 5v or they burn?
Thanks in advance.

Use MPLAB , since there are no GUI for ICD 2. Under programmer -> ICD 2 , then program. You can debug it as well under debugger.
