PCMCIA to serial to PIC programmer?

Will these work for serial programmers? i'm using a laptop, so no serial port. using old desktop to program PIC. Just thinking here, will a PCMCIA serial adapter be able to prgram the PIC using this serial programmers? any thought/idea is welcome. thanx

A USB based PIC programmer would be a better fit I would think. PICkit2 , Junebug come to mind and are excellent for laptops.
