I want to build a watchdog for my little server.
At the moment, I plan to build a small circuit attached to the serial port which has to be retriggered by a daemon process on the server every few minutes else it will reset the server.

**broken link removed** is quite what I mean.

Hardware will basically be a 89c2051 based µC system with an rs232 interface and some kind of relay to pull down power from the pc system.

Any suggestions to this (e.g. better ways of detecting if pc system is in a sane state)?
