PC port programming in windows XP, help needed

I am trying to access pc ports in windows xp but it seems it is restricted by microsoft, I am using C language, can any one help me in this matter. Is there a way to access the ports in win xp in c language?
 

Do you mean the parallel port? That's been asked/answered many times here, just do a search.

You need a kernel mode device driver to give your program direct access to I/O ports. My favorite is PortTalk. Read more here:
