parallel or serial port setting

hi all
what's parallel and serial port mode in start-up SETUP exactly and what's the difference ?
i could not underestand following I/O configuration :
2EH/IRQ10
378H/IRQ7
ECP or EPP
+ . . .
what's these?plz. ne1 help me

Hi,

The 2Eh and 378h refer to the input/ouput address at which you (or any software on the PC) can talk to the ports. The IRQ's are signal lines so that the device on the port can tell the PC that it needs attention. The other bits refering to the parallel ports are:

SPP - Standard Parallel Port
EPP - Enhanced Parallel Port
ECP - Extended Capability Port

EPP and ECP are intedned for more complicated uses of the port than its original intention, for instance connecting to CDROM's.
